Sony HVR-Z7E Camcorder Reviewed

Sony HVR-Z7E Camcorder Reviewed

Sony HVR-Z7E Camcorder

Here is the Sony HVR-Z7E camcorder review from TrustedReviews. Sony HVR-Z7E features a 12x Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* zoom lens, a 1.2 Megapixel progressive 3 ClearVid CMOS Sensor, and a 3.2-inch LCD display. The camcorder supports HDMI output and has i.Link connector. Sony HVR-Z7E uses CF as storage media.

TrustedReviews’s Verdict:

Sony’s embracing of solid state recording is a sign of how tape’s days as a primary recording medium are numbered, even if it’s still the most cost effective choice for long-term archiving. With its removable lens system and choice of recording systems, the HVR-Z7E is a great camcorder for electronic news gathering and independent filmmaking alike.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300 gets reviewed

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300 gets reviewed

We briefly got our hands on Sony's DSC-T300 digital camera (along with a bevy of other Cyber-shots) back at PMA earlier this year, but the folks at Digital Photography Review have now come through with a thorough review of the camera which, among other things, is particularly notable for its use of touchscreen controls. On that important point, they found the controls 'generally pleasant to use,' aided in no small part by the 'largest possible screen for a camera of its size' (3.5 inches). They were also particularly impressed with the Cyber-shot's 'small, smart design' and its impressive 5x optical zoom. It's not all good news, however, with the camera also boasting what Digial Photography Review describes as 'terrible battery life,' as well as 'over-enthusiastic reds,' and a noise-reduction feature that not only eliminates noise but reduces image quality no matter what the setting. Some pretty big trade offs, to be sure, but apparently not enough to keep it from getting an above average rating.

Sony's 25 megapixel Alpha A900 to arrive in August or September

Sony's 25 megapixel Alpha A900 to arrive in August or September

We already spent some time grappling with Sony's monster full-frame Alpha A900 prototype at PMA, but the company's displaying an updated version at the Photo Imaging Expo in Japan, and reps are apparently now saying that the 24.6 megapixel DSLR will be launched during IFA in August or Photokina in September. Other than that, there's not much we didn't already know -- which means there's really not that much at all -- but there are some more shots of this nifty clear-bodied display unit at the read link for your ocular delight.

Pentax introduces 8MP Optio V20 point-and-shoot

Pentax introduces 8MP Optio V20 point-and-shoot

Not quite able to squeeze into a size 2 chassis before PMA, Pentax's Optio V20 now has the runway all to itself. This 8-megapixel point-and-shoot isn't anything spectacular, but the 5x optical zoom is a nice complement to the 3-inch LCD monitor, face recognition, blink detection, USB 2.0 connectivity, video out and VGA movie mode. You'll also find a SD / SDHC expansion slot in case 52MB of built-in memory just isn't enough, and the rechargeable Li-ion is said to be good for around 200 clicks on a full charge. On board? Start pinching those pennies now, as this one will set you back $279.95 when it runs aground in May.

Adobe Premiere Elements 4 Review

Quick rundown:

Pros: Simple and easy to use, but with the flexibility to create more complex videos.

Cons: No AVCHD support, yet.

Adobe Premiere Elements 4

Adobe makes it easy to create quick, appealing home movies with the latest installment of Adobe Premiere Elements. A slick interface, better integration with Photoshop Elements, and better support for Flash-based sites like YouTube make Adobe Premiere Elements 4 a great choice for video projects, but the current lack of AVCHD support makes it a product I cannot fully endorse for anyone wanting to edit non-HDV video.

Sigma DP1 First Grope

Sigma DP1 First Grope

sigma%20dp1%20GI.jpgThe guys at Pop Photo have managed to get their hands all over the much-hyped Sigma DP1. Apparently, the DP1 has a build quality comparable to the solid Canon PowerShot G9, and the mega sensor monster does away with any fuss with regards to shooting options; you'll find Manual, Auto, Aperture-priority, Program, and Shutter-priority modes for image capture, as well as QVGA video mode (320 x 240 @ 30fps) and an audio capture mode, but beyond that, there are absolutely no ludicrous scene selections to choose from. The chaps at Pop Photo found this a refreshing turn to minimalism, and we would have to agree. All in all, the hype is looking to be well founded. Checkout the full tear down by hitting the link.

Minox slims down with the DC 7411

Minox slims down with the DC 7411

Let's not get carried away here, Minox. We can understand the slim, 18.5mm-thick form factor, and the 7.2 megapixel sensor and 3x zoom seem certainly par for the course, but a 3-inch LCD? It's almost like you guys are trying to build a competitive camera here. Electronic image stabilization and face detection? Let's all keep heads here, people! No need to do anything rash. There's no word on price or availability yet, so perhaps you guys can still manage to work in some true lameness between then and now.
